John Conn

John Conn is a native of Montréal. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Music Performance, Percussion, at the University of Montréal with Serge Desgagnés. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at McGill University where he studied with Pierre Béluse, D’Arcy Gray and Andrei Malashenko. During the summer and fall of 2002, John played with the National Academy Orchestra, conducted by Boris Brott, in Hamilton, Ontario. While in Hamilton, he studied Percussion with Jean-Normand Iadeluca. John has played in many symphony orchestras including the University of Montréal, McGill University and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. He has also played in a number of Master Classes including that of Louis Charbonneau. In addition, John has taken part in numerous Chamber Music Ensembles and solo recitals.

Shawn Mativetsky

Shawn Mativetsky lives in Montreal and holds a Master's degree in music from McGill University. He is a freelance percussionist, as well as being a member of Lithium Ensemble and Ramasutra. Shawn studied Western classical percussion with Pierre Béluse, D'Arcy Philip Gray, Andrei Malashenko, and Robert Slapcoff. He has also studied the North Indian tabla with Bob Becker, and the percussion of Kerala with Bruno Paquet. He is the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, including a recent grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Shawn participates regularly in the performance of contemporary and traditional music of both Western and Indian origin.


Bernard Matte

Sitarist Bernard Matte initially studied with Jyoti Singh who holds a diploma of music from the University of Chandighar (India). After these studies in Vancouver, in 1990-91, he went to Banaras (India) to study with his principal Master, the sitarist Govinda Goswami, Doctor of Music, Banaras Hindu University. He completed his studies during two six month stays between 1991 and 1995. Bernard Matte has taken part in concerts with the Raga du Moment Serie, by Bruno Paquet.

Catherine Meunier

Catherine Meunier obtained a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, a master in music interpretation at McGill University, and a BA of music at the Université de Sherbrooke (Quebec). She studied with many masters such as Robert van Sice, Mario Boivin, Serge Desgagnés, D’Arcy Gray, Andrei Malashenko, and Pierre Béluse. She just obtained her PhD in music from the Université de Montréal. Catherine Meunier is a promising musicians from the young generation with impressive development in Quebec and abroad. In 2000, she becomes the first percussionnist to win the prestigious Prix D’Europe (Eurpope Price) unanimously given to her by the jury, and she receives the Canadian Music Center Award for the best performance of a Canadian composition.


Uwe Newman

Uwe Newman studied during ten years with Pandit Indranil Bhattacharya, in India. He holds a Master's degree in music, Sitar specialization, from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. He gave concerts of classical music as well as world music and took part in television programs through all India, including a concert of the millenium for the Dalai Lama, in Banares, performances for the French Alliance and the Sri Aurobindo Arts Centre, in Pondichéry, and the Rabindra Sadan concert hall, in Calcutta. In addition to his projects of world music with Ragleela, in India, in Germany and in Canada, he also played with the group NoEMI (Nouvel Ensemble de Musique Improvisée) with the International Jazz Festival, in Montreal (2000), and Quebec (1998).

Jean-François Pedneault

Brian Sand

Brian Sand has become an active member of the local music scene, since moving to Montréal to complete his Doctoral Studies at McGill University. Currently he is Trumpeter with the Société de musique contemporaine de Québec (SMCQ), makes regular appearances with l'Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and l'Opera de Montréal, as well as various other local music organizations. He founded and leads the Island Brass Quintet - a dynamic ensemble who make regular appearances throughout the Greater Montréal area. His teachers have included some of North America's most renowned trumpet performers including principal trumpet players of the New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Montréal Symphony Orchestras as well as several renowned chamber, studio and jazz performers. He holds degrees from Yale University, the University of Victoria and has pursued advanced studies at the University of Southern California, the Banff Centre as well as several music festivals throughout North America.


Trichy Sankaran

Guest Artist in "Talavattam", Trichy Sankaran is widely acclaimed as an artist of mridangam, India's oldest drum. He gave a great number of concerts in India, in the United States, and Canada. His virtuosity and his creativity brought him the admiration of the public and the praises of critics, as well Indian as American. Trichy Sankaran played on the five continents with musical ensembles of any origines. By his control of the mridangam, as a soloist, he carries the music of this drum to unparalleled achievements.


Jagjit Singh

Jagjit Singh is a native of Bombay where he studied tabla with masters Zakir Hussein and Ustad Alla Rakha. In 1997, he received a Master degree in tabla from the University of Bombay. He played in many concerts of Classical Indian Music in India, as well as in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal ever since he came to Canada a few years ago. Jagjit Singh participates in concerts of fusion music, and teaches tabla in Montreal.
